Brooks and Dunn – Believe (Precious memories, mine)
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
Those Who Died in Christ
13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
Joshua Aaron – Hoshiana (Official Music Video) Jerusalem “The LORD is my light and my salvation, Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread?” (Psalm 27:1). In this track, Joshua Aaron encourages the worshiper to intercede by calling out (in Hebrew) “Hoshiana” which means, “save please”.
The words of the song, “The Lord is my light and my salvation,” are very important, in more ways than many people can possibly imagine. Consider the following scenario of events. On the first Tuesday of November, 2008, Americans went to their voting places, with astounding results. Barack Obama, a member of the United Church Of Christ, was elected President. Joe Biden, a member of the Roman Catholic Church, became Vice President. Hillary Clinton, a member of the United Methodist Church, became U.S. Secretary of State. Eric Holder, a member of the Episcopal Church, became U.S. Attorney General. Nancy Pelosi, a member of the Roman Catholic Church, became the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Harry Reid, a member of the Mormon Church, became the Majority Leader Of the U.S. Senate. As we all know, just because we may be standing in a garage, it doesn’t mean that “we’re a car.” In the same light, just because we are a member of a church, it doesn’t necessarily mean that we are a born again believer in Christ. How true that statement became light when, on January 20, 2009, the above mentioned, “church members,” became the highest appointed and elected leaders of the United States. We can look back and see that these, “church members,” showed no evidence that Christ was “their Lord and their salvation?” They all supported abortion on demand, homosexuality and same-sex marriage. We shall investigate the matter, as well as the things of life that may cause someone to be left behind from the catching up of the saints, whom are true believers in Christ (John 14:1-6).
In my previous post, “You Must Be Born Again,” we read scriptures that show the results of being born again. In such a case, the Spirit of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit takes up residence inside of the spirit of such a person, and prompts them to things of Godly action and thought. Let’s consider the thoughts and actions of the above mentioned, “U.S. leaders,” and how they match up against the Word of God. Of key importance is how national leaders make decisions that affect the minds and beliefs of their citizens, especially those of the most impressionable citizens.
These verses relate to those that will, or will not, be caught up (1 Thes 4:17) by Christ to go to the Presence of God the Father for spiritual gifts (2 Cor 5:8), and then will proceed to the marriage of the Lamb (Rev 19:7-8).
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.
Revelation 21:8 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
8 But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
Notice that the above conditions of unrighteousness relate to lifestyles. Anyone can make a mistake, but those whom persist in sinful lifestyles of homosexuality and other forms of sexual immorality, show by their lifestyles that they do not have the Spirit of God dwelling within their spirits, prompting them to live righteous styles in life. Abortion on demand is murder. Anyone, who leaves a born baby on a cold metal table to die, has committed murder. Anyone having a murderous lifestyle does not have the Spirit of God dwelling within their spirit prompting them to righteous living, and will not have an eternal presence with God. The cowardly are those of whom do not have genuine faith; in essence, they are not born again. (John 3:3, “Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”). In essence, those maintaining lifestyles of homosexuality and murder will spend their eternity in the lake of fire (Revelation 20:15)
Revelation 20:15 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Consider the fact that anyone can change their eternal destiny.
1 Corinthians 6:11 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
Notice that anybody can come out of unrighteous lifestyles, by accepting Christ as their Lord and Savior,. Such a person will begin having the Spirit of God prompting them to a lifestyle of Godly living. Based on the lifestyles of those whom assumed positions of leadership in the U.S., in January of 2009, it is very clear that none of them were born again, having the Spirit of God dwelling within their spirits, prompting them to demonstrate righteous lifestyles. All of these leaders were Democrats, and acted in concert with the party platform of the Democrat party. Nancy Pelosi was the Speaker of the U.S. House Of Representatives from 2007-2011, and then became the minority leader of the House, a position that she holds until this day. It is important to know all elected members of the Democrat party support the killing of unborn babies, homosexuality, and same-sex marriage. Should it be a surprise that Hillary Clinton does not believe that unborn babies have any constitutional rights? Is it because the constitution protects against murder? Is it also if unborn babies have no personhood they have no protection against murder, and any unborn baby can be ripped apart, at any time, with no consequences for the murderer?
Consider the main reason that Democrats oppose President Trump, and other members of the Republican party. This shouldn’t be a difficult matter to figure out. It showed very loudly in the Senate confirmation hearings of Judge Brett Kavanaugh. The driving force behind the Democrat party is that of abortion. The Democrat party has a party plank on abortion on demand, which calls for abortions to be performed for any reason, or no reason, at any time during the time leading up to the birth of the child. Democrat Presidents have nominated Supreme Court justices based on whether those nominees would favor legislation that would support abortion. Republican Presidents have not placed such a litmus test on their nominees. Democrat Presidents favor nominees which have a view of the Constitution as being a “living and breathing document.” Republican Presidents favor nominees that support a constitution that can not be chiseled and reshaped in order to meet the purposes of the party in the majority, whether that party is Democrat of Republican. Because President Trump supports nominees that will interpret the constitution (as provided in the constitution), Democrats did not even wait until the name of Judge Kavanaugh was made known, before they began criticizing the President’s nominee. Democrats favor Justices that will “legislate from the bench.” Legislation is the responsibility of the Congress. Interpretation is the responsibility of Judges. Enacting legislation into law is the responsibility of the President. Because of the Democrat backing of those favoring abortion, it is difficult for nominees for the Supreme Court to be Catholic, Southern Baptist, Bible Baptist, Independent Baptist, Assemblies of God, Churches of God, and for nominees of other evangelical churches to pass Senate confirmation and find a place on the Supreme Court. During the Senate confirmation hearings of appointments to President Trump’s cabinet, those nominees received a barrage of questions on abortion and “LGBTQ.” One such nominee was a graduate of Wheaton College, which is an evangelical Christian College. Bernie Sanders was unrelenting with his questions about that nominee’s belief that Jews are doomed to hell without Christ in their lives; such a belief is consistent with those of other evangelical Christians. Sanders is an independent who caucuses with Democrats. No Democrat came to the defense of the Trump nominee.
The fear of Democrats is that, if enough Supreme Court Justices who favor interpretation of the constitution outnumber the Justices who do not believe in the interpretation of the constitution, the Supreme Court ruling of January 22, 1973, (which stated that abortion on demand was legal due to privacy), will be overturned. If the Supreme Court decision on abortion is overturned, states will individually decide on the legality, or illegality, of abortion. The attacks on Judge Kavanaugh were brutal, with only hearsay being used as evidence.
The Democrat party has also shown a total disdain toward the nation of Israel. Situations that relate to the Democrats and Israel will be discussed in the next article.
What are the factors that may cause someone to be left behind from the catching up of the believers in Christ? The answer is that anything that gets in the way of a person and Christ, as their Lord and Savior, can cause a person to not be born again.
The purpose of this article is to warn people, which believe that they are born again believers in Christ, that they actually may not be been born again. If someone has an ongoing belief that homosexuality or killing unborn babies are not against the moral laws of God, such a person has not been born again. If medical providers have a practice of killing unborn babies, they have not been born again. If a member of government (whether legislator, governor, president, or any other elected official), supports abortion on demand or homosexual supportive legislation, they have not been born again. Here is a situation that may be very close to home. Anyone having a history of voting for, or supporting, candidates and/or legislation that favor abortion on demand or homosexuality, is a person that has not been born again. There are democrat ministers in congress; they all vote in support of the democrat causes of abortion and homosexuality. Here is a situation that is as fatal as a heart attack: elected democrats are teaching their children to support abortion and homosexuality. The greatest warning goes to voters whom are not teaching their children that abortion is murder, and that homosexuality is not an abomination. The Hebrew translation of abomination is “toebah,” having the following words of application: abominable, abominable act , abomination, abominations, detestable, detestable act, detestable thing, detestable things, loathsome, object of loathing.” When used with reference to God, the word, “toebah,” describes people, things, acts, relationships and characteristics that are detestable to Him because they are contrary to His nature. “Repulsive” is a word that is also used to describe abomination, meaning that homosexuality is an act, or relationship, that makes God want to “throw up.” Parents, that do not teach their children as to the severity of God’s view of abortion and homosexuality, are not doing anything to keep themselves, or their children, from being thrown into the lake of fire at the great white throne judgment (Revelation 20:10-15). Parents! Do not let a liberal pastor teach you and your children that abortion and homosexuality are okay with God. Parents! Do not let the abominable teachings of liberal pastors and members of government cause you and your children to be left behind from the catching up of the saints! Parents! Do not continue voting for democrats. After all! It is only the eternity of you and our children that is at stake. Parents! Children! Democrats! Liberal pastors! Remember this! If you have not been born again, you will not be caught up and taken to the Presence of God prior to the tribulation; you will go through the tribulation; you will stand before the great white throne judgement and then be cast into the lake of fire, which burns forever and ever. Folks! It is your choice!
Consider the following videos.
Tears Of Abortion – Story of an aborted baby, This ProLife Video will make you cry your eyes out.
Meet the Abortion Providers Part 3
Just in case you may have wondered, I will tell you something about myself. I have no ax to grind, but the ax of truth. I am not registered in the Republican party. I am a citizen of the United States Of America.
So, why will anyone be left behind when the catching up of the saints takes place (1 Thes 4:13-18)? It will be because they have not been born again. Make sure that you have been born again. Don’t assume that just because you “go to church,” that you have been born again.
Joshua Aaron – He’s Coming Again (Official Music Video) Jerusalem
Joshua Aaron sings of the truth of the return of Christ in this video. The return of Christ to earth occurs in two stages; we will discuss both. It is important that the contents of this article be understood. There are eternal consequences for those whom do not understand the details that lead to the return of Christ. Consider all parents. Consider all children. Consider all whom are living in our world.
I. Christ will return in the air to catch up His saints (not Catholic designated) from the earth. He will then take with Him, those whom have been born again, to the Presence of God The Father (This will happen prior to the time of the Tribulation. Those, whom will not have been born again, will remain on earth to undergo the persecution of the anti-christ and the judgments of God. As will be explained in this article, those whom have been born again have been made righteous through the new birth, “spiritually as righteous as Christ.” Those whom have not been born again are defiant toward Christ and are unrighteous. The tribulation is designed to judge sin and to draw unrighteous people to accept Christ as their Messiah, their Lord and Savior, with the unrighteous unborn again people of Israel being the primary focus of the tribulation; they are God’s chosen people! (Deuteronomy 7:6; Jeremiah 30:7; Daniel 9:20, 24-27). By no means will born again people of the world remain on earth to suffer from the horrors of the tribulation. So, yes! You must be born again!
Note: All verses in this article come from the New American Standard Bible, 1995 Translation, unless otherwise noted.
John 14:1-6 New American Standard Bible
Jesus Comforts His Disciples – The Catching Up Of The Born Again Believers In Christ
1 “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3 If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And you know the way where I am going.” 5 Thomas *said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?” 6 Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
vs 3: “I will come again and receive you to myself; where I am, there you may be also.” (Christ, God The Son, is in the Presence of God the Father in the third heaven; that is where born again believers in Christ (Jew and Gentile) will be taken by Christ, when He comes in the air, catches them up and carries them away.)
vs 6: “I am the way and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me.” (It is true that only by faith in Christ that we have access to God the Father. The explanation here is that, Christ will physically take born again believers in Christ to the Presence of God the Father. No other, “supposed deity,” has made such a claim. Other supporting scriptures are 1 Cor 15:50-54; 1 Thes 4:13-18.)
II. Christ will return physically to stand on the earth, at the end of the tribulation. Then, He will judge sin and deal with Jews and Gentiles whom are still alive at the end of the tribulation as to their eternity. Jews and Gentiles, whom will not have come to know Christ as Messiah during the tribulation, will be taken to judgement; they will experience immediate death and will be resurrected at the end of the millennium to stand before the great white throne judgment; from there, they will be cast into the lake of fire, which burns forever and ever. For those Jews and Gentiles, whom will have come to know Christ as Messiah during the tribulation (being born again), they will be left behind to enter the thousand-year millennium/kingdom age, where they will rule and reign with Christ. After the time of the millennium, all born again believers in Christ will enter the eternity of the “new heaven, new earth, and new Jerusalem” in the Presence of God.
References: The return of Christ to Earth at end of tribulation (Zech 14:1-16; Matt 24:29-30; Mark 13:24-27; Luke 21:25-28; Jude 14-15; Rev 19:11-21). Angels will gather all Jews, “the elect,” (saved and unsaved) from all of the world (Matt 24:31). The day and time of the second coming of Christ to Earth is unknown (Matt 24:34: no such statement is made about the John 14:1-6 catching up of the saints of Christ). One Jew will be taken to judgment, the other Jew will be left to enter the kingdom (Matt 24:40-41).
III. In order for any to be caught up to heaven, as in John 14:1-6, or whether they are allowed to enter the millennium, “they must have been born again.”
A. When we see Christ, we will be like him (1 John 3:2) 2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.
B. When we have been born again, we can not be unborn. God created our born again spirit; no one can undo that spiritual creation, not even us.
John 10:27-30
27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”
IV. Consider the seriousness of whether someone has been born again, or has not been born again. The clearly stated requirement for anyone to enter the kingdom of God is, “you must be born again,” (John 3:3). To be born again is to have your spirit made as righteous as the Spirit of God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), must inhabit the spirit of each person who is caught up in John 14:1-6, or who is allowed to enter the Kingdom in Matthew 24-25. There must be a belief in Christ as Lord and Savior; there must also be a new birth. Consider John 3:3, 3-8 3:16-18:
3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (We must be born again)
8“The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” (God’s Holy Spirit creates the born again Spirit)
16“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17“For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18“He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (If we believe we have been born again; if we have been born again, we believe.)
V. Until we have been born again, our spirit can not dwell within the Spirit of God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). Unless we have been born again, we can not reside in the Kingdom Age, or in the eternal state of the new heaven, new earth and new Jerusalem. Those whom have been born again will be given resurrection bodies and souls at the time of “the catching up,” to accompany their spirits that have already been born again, and are in the Presence of God (2 Cor 5:8). All of us, whom have been caught up to be in the Presence of God the Father (John 14:1-6), will have a “body, soul, and spirit,” having no flaw.
VI. Let’s consider the events that takes place after we have been born again.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. (When we are born again, we are a new creature, as it relates to our spirit).
2 Corinthians 5:21 21 “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (When we are born again, because of the sacrifice of Christ on the cross, our spirit becomes as righteous as the Spirit of Christ.)
Colossians 1:27 “to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Our hope of eternal life with Christ is to have the Spirit of Christ dwelling within our spirit.)
1 John 1:5 “This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.” (In order for our spirit to dwell within the Spirit of God, we must have a spirit that is as pure as the Spirit of God.)
John 14:20 “In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.” (Christ explains the indwelling of the Spirit (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), in the spirit of born again believers; and the spirit of born again believers in the Spirit of God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit).
John 14:26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” (God’s Holy Spirit will teach Godliness to all of whom have been born again, those whom have the Holy Spirit dwelling within their spirits.)
John 15:26 “When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me, 27 and you will testify also, because you have been with Me from the beginning. (The purpose of the Holy Spirit is to glorify Christ.)
John 16:5 “But now I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ 6“But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. 7“But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. 8 “And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; 11 and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. (For those whom have the Spirit of God dwelling within their spirits, there is a constant teaching of righteousness by the Holy Spirit; “concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.”That teaching go out from the born again believer to those whom will come in contact with them, the believers.)
VII. The benefits of being born again are that the believer’s born-again spirit dwells within the Spirit of God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). The Holy Spirit constantly teaches the born again believers of Godly things. When Christ catches up the born again believers, they will be taken to the Judgment Seat Of Christ to receive rewards. Next, they will go to the Marriage of the Lamb, as the Bride of Christ. At the end of the tribulation, Christ and the Bride will return to earth at the Battle of Armageddon, to judge sin and to set up the Kingdom of God. Of those whom were left behind from the catching up of the saints (Jews and Gentiles), those which live through the tribulation, they will be judged as to those which will be taken to judgment, and those whom will be judged to enter the kingdom (A judgment is a judicial finding. Not all judgments end with guilty verdicts.). While in the Kingdom, the born again believers will take part in the Marriage Supper Of The Lamb, along with the Old Testament saints and the tribulation saints. During their time in the Kingdom, the believers will rule and reign with Christ for the thousand-years. No more judgments are ahead for the born again believers. Their next stop is the eternal state of the new heaven, new earth and New Jerusalem, where they will spend eternity in a state of purity, “forever.” (2 Cor 5:10, Rev 19:7-8; Rev 19:9; Rev 19:11-21; Rev 20:4-6; Rev 21:1-3; Rev 21:22-27).
VIII. WARNING. Revelation 20:15 “And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” (The judgment for those whom are not born again is to spend eternity in the lake of fire.). This is a serious situation that is all too often overlooked and minimized, as to its severity, in sermons and lessons. In order for anyone to believe in Christ, they must have been exposed to the Word of God which is contained in the Holy Bible. There is a caution however, as to those whom have not been born again, in relation to detractors.
A. In this article we have discussed the need for all, including parents and children, to be born again, so that they will be able to spend their eternity in the Presence of God. In my next article, I will address the things that Satan uses to prevent us, our children, and all whom are alive in our world, from being born again.
B. The seriousness of the tribulation should not be discounted, lessened, mocked or denied. Consider the following video, as to the effects of the tribulation. Please disregard any dates that are indicated and any small children that may be shown in the video. The false prophet types of “religious” leaders will continue to preach false truths of the events that will clearly be taking place…still trying to “spiritualize” visual truth. Fake news will continue to report the obvious judgments of God, of which they had denied, and will continue to deny that they are actual judgments of God. Ungodly political leaders will finally find their places of prominence in their “total world rule,” only to be short-lived. There will be no opposition to: abortion, same-sex marriage, “no borders,” or to the demonization of Israel. The ungodly forces of humanistic: “fake news, governments, academia, education, entertainment and new world order affiliated corporations,” will rejoice, because no truly Godly forces will be present on earth to oppose their Satanic goals. Truly, the earth dwellers will continue to oppose God…even to their deaths (Rev 3:10; 6:10; 8:13; 11:10; 13:8, 13:14; 17:8). Those that find themselves left behind, and coming under the tribulation judgments of God, will experience a time of cataclysmic disorder that will be greater than that which was present, even during the time of the worldwide flood of Noah (Matthew 24:21).
“For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.
In spite of God’s special love for the Jews, the following news post shows that not all of those in the world agree with God’s view of Israel. Please see the following news article.
Israel should be wiped off map, says Iran’s president
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2005/oct/27/israel.iran
Iran’s new president created a sense of outrage in the west yesterday by describing Israel as a “disgraceful blot” that should be “wiped off the face of the earth”. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who is more hardline than his predecessor, told students in Tehran that a new wave of Palestinian attacks would be enough to finish off Israel.

I have often been asked about what one needs to do to achieve success in any given field. In this article, I will attempt to provide some insights from my personal experience and journey and I do hope you find them useful.
1. Decision
This is arguably the most important step you have to take, if you want to achieve anything meaningful in your career or business. Success begins the day to take a decision to move in a definition direction towards your goal. Often, I have asked some persons who come for advice what exactly they want to achieve? What type of job they are looking for? What type of car, house or goods do want to have? Most times I get the answer “anything” Just any job or car or whatever their goal is. The reality is anything means nothing. So to succeed, you need to have clarity…

Joshua Aaron – Shalom (Official Music Video) the “Shabbat Shalom Song” שבת שלום – Sabbath begins on Friday evening at sunset, and continues through Saturday evening at sunset. Please enjoy the video of Jewish families and friends in Jerusalem, Israel, sharing a meal and honoring the Sabbath . It will be nice to honor a Jew with the greeting, “Shabbat Shalom,” which means, “Sabbath of Peace.”
In this article we will discuss the differences that exist between the tithe of the Old Covenant and the gift of the New Covenant. It is important to have both discussions contained in one article for continuity purposes. You will find four related teaching videos on tithing at the bottom of this page.
The New Covenant – The Gift
The situation of the benevolent needs of the first century believers at Jerusalem is clearly stated in Apostle Paul’s letters to the church at Corinth. The “collection for the saints” (1 Cor 16:1), deals with the collection of gifts that the church at Corinth was preparing for the destitute believers in Jerusalem.
An important description of the attitude of the Corinthians toward their benevolent giving is that they were “cheerful givers,” in their response to the needs of the believers in Jerusalem (2 Cor 9:7). There is no teaching about a “cheerful tither,” or anything about tithing, in the New Testament. It is only in the context of the need for gifts to the believers in Jerusalem that we see the words, “cheerful giver.” The tithe is a requirement of the Old Covenant Law (to be discussed in this article). There is no teaching in the New Testament about any sort of offering being collected in any of the churches, weekly or otherwise, except for the purposes of benevolence. If there is a desire to keep any part of the Law, all of the Law must be kept (James 2:10), which would include animal sacrifices, and stoning. Christ fulfilled all of the Law (Matt 5:17). The tithe is more than ten per cent; we will discuss the percentage in this article.
Collection for the Jerusalem Church
1 Corinthians 16:1-4 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
1 Now about the collection for the saints: You should do the same as I instructed the Galatian churches. 2 On the first day of the week, each of you is to set something aside and save in keeping with how he prospers, so that no collections will need to be made when I come. 3 When I arrive, I will send with letters those you recommend to carry your gracious gift to Jerusalem. 4 If it is suitable for me to go as well, they can travel with me.
Note: “16:1 collection”. An offering for destitute believers in the overpopulated, famine stricken city of Jerusalem (v. 3; see Acts 11:28). Paul had previously solicited funds from the churches of Galatia, Macedonia, and Achaia (Rom. 15:26; cf. Luke 10:25–37; 2 Cor. 8:1–5; 9:12–15; Gal. 6:10; 1 John 3:17). “16:3, 4” This matter of getting the money to Jerusalem was important enough for Paul to go, if necessary. (MacArthur Study Bible notes 1, 3, 4).
Note: “16:4”: Whomever you approve refers to the person who would accompany Paul (v. 4) to Jerusalem to deliver the gift on behalf of the Corinthian church (NKJV Study Bible note).
8 Appeal to Complete the Collection; Administration of the Collection; 9 Motivations for Giving.
Note: 8:1—9:15 this section specifically deals with Paul’s instruction to the Corinthians about a particular collection for the saints in Jerusalem,…(MacArthur Study Bible note).
Note: 8:4 the gift and the fellowship. “Gift” means “grace.” The Macedonian Christians implored Paul for the special grace of being able to have fellowship and be partners in supporting the poor saints in Jerusalem. They viewed giving as a privilege, not an obligation (cf. 9:7) (MacArthur Study Bible note).
Note: 9:1 ministering to the saints. The offering they were collecting for the believers in Jerusalem (see note on 8:4) (MacArthur Study Bible note).
Note: 9:12 “supplies the needs of the saints.” The Gr. word for “supplies” is a doubly intense term that could be rendered “really, fully supplying.” This indicates the Jerusalem church had an extremely great need. (MacArthur Study Bible note).
Numbers 18:8-20 – Offerings for Support of the Priests
Note: 18:8-20 These verses give instructions for the maintenance of the priests and their families (vs 11) by the various offerings brought by the people (MacArthur Study Bible note).
8 And the Lord spoke to Aaron: “Here, I Myself have also given you charge of My heave offerings, all the holy gifts of the children of Israel; I have given them as a portion to you and your sons, as an ordinance forever. 9 This shall be yours of the most holy things reserved from the fire: every offering of theirs, every grain offering and every sin offering and every trespass offering which they render to Me, shall be most holy for you and your sons. 10 In a most holy place you shall eat it; every male shall eat it. It shall be holy to you. 11 “This also is yours: the heave offering of their gift, with all the wave offerings of the children of Israel; I have given them to you, and your sons and daughters with you, as an ordinance forever. Everyone who is clean in your house may eat it.
Note: 3:12 One of the ways in which all nations would be drawn to the worship of the Lord was by seeing how the people of Israel fared with the Lord as their God. a delightful land: The adjective indicates enjoyment, life that is genuinely pleasurable (see 1:10; see also the related verb in 3:1). Faithfulness to God would lead to fruitfulness in the land (NKJV Study Bible note).
12 “All the best of the oil, all the best of the new wine and the grain, their firstfruits which they offer to the Lord, I have given them to you. 13 Whatever first ripe fruit is in their land, which they bring to the Lord, shall be yours. Everyone who is clean in your house may eat it. 14 “Every devoted thing in Israel shall be yours. 15 “Everything that first opens the womb of all flesh, which they bring to the Lord, whether man or beast, shall be yours; nevertheless the firstborn of man you shall surely redeem, and the firstborn of unclean animals you shall redeem. 16 And those redeemed of the devoted things you shall redeem when one month old, according to your valuation, for five shekels of silver, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, which is twenty gerahs. 17 But the firstborn of a cow, the firstborn of a sheep, or the firstborn of a goat you shall not redeem; they are holy. You shall sprinkle their blood on the altar, and burn their fat as an offering made by fire for a sweet aroma to the Lord. 18 And their flesh shall be yours, just as the wave breast and the right thigh are yours. 19 “All the heave offerings of the holy things, which the children of Israel offer to the Lord, I have given to you and your sons and daughters with you as an ordinance forever; it is a covenant of salt forever before the Lord with you and your descendants with you.” 20 Then the Lord said to Aaron: “You shall have no inheritance in their land, nor shall you have any portion among them; I am your portion and your inheritance among the children of Israel.
Note: 18:19 a covenant of salt forever. Salt, which does not burn, was a metaphor to speak of durability. As salt keeps its flavor, so the Lord’s covenant with the priesthood was durable. The Lord would provide through the offerings of His people for His priests forever (MacArthur Study Bible note).
Numbers 18:21-24 – Tithes for Support of the Levites
Note: 18:21–24 The Levites received the tithes from the people. This was their source of income and compensation for their tabernacle service (MacArthur Study note).
21 “Behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tithes in Israel as an inheritance in return for the work which they perform, the work of the tabernacle of meeting. 22 Hereafter the children of Israel shall not come near the tabernacle of meeting, lest they bear sin and die. 23 But the Levites shall perform the work of the tabernacle of meeting, and they shall bear their iniquity; it shall be a statute forever, throughout your generations, that among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance. 24 For the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer up as a heave offering to the Lord, I have given to the Levites as an inheritance; therefore I have said to them, ‘Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.’ ”
Numbers 18:25-32 – The Tithe of the Levites
25 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 26 “Speak thus to the Levites, and say to them: ‘When you take from the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them as your inheritance, then you shall offer up a heave offering of it to the Lord, a tenth of the tithe. 27 And your heave offering shall be reckoned to you as though it were the grain of the threshing floor and as the fullness of the winepress. 28 Thus you shall also offer a heave offering to the Lord from all your tithes which you receive from the children of Israel, and you shall give the Lord’s heave offering from it to Aaron the priest. 29 Of all your gifts you shall offer up every heave offering due to the Lord, from all the best of them, the consecrated part of them.’ 30 Therefore you shall say to them: ‘When you have lifted up the best of it, then the rest shall be accounted to the Levites as the produce of the threshing floor and as the produce of the winepress. 31 You may eat it in any place, you and your households, for it is your reward for your work in the tabernacle of meeting. 32 And you shall bear no sin because of it, when you have lifted up the best of it. But you shall not profane the holy gifts of the children of Israel, lest you die.’ ”
18:25–32 As the Levites themselves received the tithe, they were also required to present a tithe (a tenth) of what they received to the Lord (MacArthur Study Bible note).
The Tithe – 23 Percent Annually
2 Chronicles 31:6 New King James Version (NKJV) 6 And the children of Israel and Judah, who dwelt in the cities of Judah, brought the tithe of oxen and sheep; also the tithe of holy things which were consecrated to the Lord their God they laid in heaps.
2 Chronicles 31:6 tithe. Since the priests and Levites served the nation, they were to be supported by the people through the taxation of the tithe. According to Lev. 27:30–33 and Num. 18:21, 24, the people were to give the tenth (tithe) to supply all the needs of the Levites. Malachi 3:8 says they were robbing God when they did not give the tithe. Deuteronomy 12:6, 7 called for a second tithe that was to support the nation’s devotion to the temple by being used for the national festivals at the temple in Jerusalem. This was called the festival tithe. Deuteronomy 14:28, 29 called for a third tithe every 3 years for the poor. The sum of this tax plan totaled about 23 percent annually (MacArthur Study Bible note).
Malachi – Malachi’s prophecy relates to the nation of Israel, and the lack of Israelite support for the needs of the priests and families of the Levitical priesthood. The sin of the Israelites, “not tithing,” forced the priests to find their own support for their families, which caused them to neglect their priestly duties. Malachi 3:10 has been used to state an Old Covenant teaching of the tithe as a basis for a New Covenant Tithe. However, the verse is clear in stating that a nation, “Israel,” is the object of the sin. Also, the stated benefit for tithing is that, “… all nations will call you blessed, For you will be a delightful land,” (Mal 3:12). However, Christianity is not a nation, and does not have a land. Also, it is untruthful to say that Christians will be called blessed by all nations, and will be a delightful land, if Christians will tithe. The prophecy of Mal 3:12 will be fulfilled in the Kingdom Age/Millennium. At present time, only a few nations have a favorable view of Israel; that will not change until Israel is living in their promised land in the Kingdom Age (Isaiah 62:4). Levites will have a place of prominence in the Millennium Temple (Ezekiel 44-45:8). It is very important to watch the four following videos that discuss the tithe.
Isaiah 62:4 New King James Version (NKJV) 4 You shall no longer be termed Forsaken, Nor shall your land any more be termed Desolate; But you shall be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; For the Lord delights in you, And your land shall be married.
62:4 Hephzibah…Beulah. The terms mean “My delight is in her” and “Married,” reflecting a full restored relationship with the Lord.
Malachi Overview – The Nation Of Israel’s Sinfulness – Neglecting The Support Of The Levites
NOTE 1:1—2:16 In the first of two major sections (cf. 2:17–4:6), Malachi delivered God’s message which denounced sin among the people of Israel (MacArthur Study Bible note).
NOTE 2:17—4:6 The denunciation of Israel’s sins was followed by a declaration of the judgment on the unrepentant and subsequent blessing on the faithful remnant. Verse 17 is the introduction to the rest of the book. These faithless, disobedient priests and people had worn out God’s patience by their skepticism and self-justification, so judgment is on the way (MacArthur Study Bible note).
Malachi 3:1-10 New King James Version (NKJV) The Coming Messenger
1 “Behold, I send My messenger, And he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, Will suddenly come to His temple, Even the Messenger of the covenant, In whom you delight. Behold, He is coming,” Says the Lord of hosts. 2 “But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner’s fire And like launderers’ soap. 3 He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver; He will purify the sons of Levi, And purge them as gold and silver, That they may offer to the Lord An offering in righteousness.
NOTE 3:3 purify the sons of Levi. Since the Levitical priests were instrumental in leading the nation astray and a new group of pure priests was required for the work of the millennial temple (cf. Ezek. 44–45:8), the cleansing of the nation would begin with them (cf. Ezek. 9:6) (MacArthur Study Bible note).
4 “Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem ll be pleasant to the Lord, As in the days of old, As in former years.
NOTE 3:4 the days of old. Only after the priesthood is purged and when the people are cleansed, will they be able to offer what pleases the Lord as in the days of Solomon (2 Chr. 7:8–10); Hezekiah (2 Chr. 30:26); Josiah (2 Chr. 35:18); and Ezra (Neh. 8:7) (MacArthur Study Bible note).
5 And I will come near you for judgment; I will be a swift witness Against sorcerers, Against adulterers, Against perjurers, Against those who exploit wage earners and widows and orphans, And against those who turn away an alien— Because they do not fear Me,” Says the Lord of hosts.
NOTE 3:5 What is a refining process for the remnant of repentant Jews who acknowledge their Messiah (cf. Zech. 12–14; Rom. 11:25–27), preparing them to enter the kingdom and worship in the millennial temple, will be for others utter destruction (MacArthur Study Bible note).
NOTE 3:6–12 These verses form a parenthesis between two messages concerning God’s justice and judgment. What the Jews have labeled as God’s injustice is not God’s being unrighteous or unfair, but His being mercifully patient. A genuine call of repentance is then issued (v. 7) and the fruit of it described (v. 10) (MacArthur Study Bible note).
6 For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.
7 Yet from the days of your fathers You have gone away from My ordinances And have not kept them.
Return to Me, and I will return to you,” Says the Lord of hosts. “But you said,‘In what way shall we return?’ Do Not Rob God
NOTE 3:6, 7 Contrary to God’s having become unjust and thus not acting on behalf of Israel, in light of their history of rebellion, Israel’s existence was due only to the Lord’s unchanging character and unswerving commitment to His covenant promise with the patriarchs (cf. Num. 23:19; 1 Sam. 15:29; James 1:17 in general; Jer. 31:35–37; 33:14–22 in particular). They may experience God’s goodness again, and be blessed—if they repent (MacArthur Study Bible note)..
NOTE 3:8–12 In answer to their query about how they have deviated from God’s way and need to return, the prophet picked an illustration of their spiritual defection that is very visible and undeniable. The Lord pointed out that they had not brought the required tithes and offerings, those used to fund the theocracy by sustaining the Levites (cf. Lev. 27:30–33; Num. 18:8–28; Deut. 12:18; Neh. 13:10), the national religious festivals (Deut. 12:6–17; 14:22–27), and the poor (Deut. 14:28, 29) MacArthur Study Bible note).
8 “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings.
NOTE 3:8 The tithes were the gifts to the Lord that the Law required. There were three: two that were annual and one that came every three years. The tithe supported the priests and Levites, and also widows, orphans, and foreigners (Deut. 14:28, 29) (NKJV Bible Study note).
9 You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation.
My note: 3:8, 9, In the following videos you will be given sound commentary on whether Christians are “robbing God,” by not tithing.
10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,”
Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.
My note: Notice the purpose of the storehouse
NOTE 3:10 all the tithes. See note on vv. 8–12. When tithes were unpaid, the priests were deprived and had to give up their ministry and to begin farming. The nation’s religious life was hindered and the poor and strangers suffered (cf. Neh. 13:10–11). But, the real iniquity was that such disobedience was robbing God, who was the true King of the theocracy of Israel. storehouse. A room in the temple to store the tithes of crops and animals brought by the people (cf. 2 Chr. 31:11; Neh. 10:38, 39; 12:44; 13:12). This was the temple treasury. One of Nehemiah’s tasks was to insure that the supplies needed for support of the temple ministry did not fail as it had during his absence (cf. Neh. 13:10–13) (Mac Arthur Study Bible note).
11 “And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground,
Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” Says the Lord of hosts;
12 “And all nations will call you blessed, For you will be a delightful land,” Says the Lord of hosts
Faithfulness to God would lead to fruitfulness in the land. (NKJV Study Bible note).
The following verses tell of the Levites not having an inheritance in the promised land, and are to be paid for their services in the tabernacle by the tithe.
Deuteronomy 10:9 New King James Version (NKJV) 9 Therefore Levi has no portion nor inheritance with his brethren; the Lord is his inheritance, just as the Lord your God promised him.)
Deuteronomy 12:12 New King James Version (NKJV) 12 And you shall rejoice before the Lord your God, you and your sons and your daughters, your male and female servants, and the Levite who is within your gates, since he has no portion nor inheritance with you.
Deuteronomy 14:27-29 New King James Version (NKJV) 27 You shall not forsake the Levite who is within your gates, for he has no part nor inheritance with you. 28 “At the end of every third year you shall bring out the tithe of your produce of that year and store it up within your gates. 29 And the Levite, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you, and the stranger and the fatherless and the widow who are within your gates, may come and eat and be satisfied, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.
Deuteronomy 18:1-2 New King James Version (NKJV) 18 “The priests, the Levites—all the tribe of Levi—shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel; they shall eat the offerings of the Lord made by fire, and His portion. 2 Therefore they shall have no inheritance among their brethren; the Lord is their inheritance, as He said to them.
Joshua 13:33 New King James Version (NKJV) 33 But to the tribe of Levi Moses had given no inheritance; the Lord God of Israel was their inheritance, as He had said to them.
