The Rapture

John Ankerberg Show Published on Feb 27, 2014. In this program, Dr. John Ankerberg and his guests, Dr. Renald Showers and Dr. Jimmy DeYoung, discuss the differences between the times when the Rapture and Second Coming of Christ will occur.

The Revelation of Jesus Christ (NASB)

Revelation 1:1

1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His bond-servants the things which must soon take place; and He sent and communicate by His angel to His bond-servant John,

My note: Notice that this is “the Revelation,” singular, and not “revelations,” plural.

Revelation 1:3

3 Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it for the time is near.

My note: Notice the encouragement that is given in this verse. Blessings come from reading, hearing, and heeding the things that written in the Book of Revelation. The participants in the video are identified at the bottom of this page, along with their biographical information.

The catching up of the church (rapture, harpazo, rapio)

Christ, through the rapture, will suddenly take away the saints of God away from earth, so that they will not have to endure the “soon to follow” judgments of God on a sinful world in a seven-year period of time that is known as the tribulation.

(Rapture: English; Harpazo: Greek; Rapio: Latin). The rapture can be explained as being, “the catching up,” or “the snatching away.” The “catching up” of God’s people has been used by God in the past for His purposes, both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament. It will happen again in the future.

Rapture verses.

Christ, God the Son, comes in the air (not to stand on earth) and catches born again believers away to the third heaven, to the Presence of God, the Father.

John 14:1-6 New King James Version (NKJV)

1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.”

5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”

6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

1 Corinthians 15:50-54 New King James Version (NKJV)

50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 New King James Version (NKJV)

13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.

15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

The Second Coming Of Christ

Christ returns to earth, and stands on the earth, for the purpose of judging sin and for establishing his earthly kingdom, which is also known as the millennium and the thousand-year reign of Christ.

We will address the second coming of Christ in the next article that I publish.

  1. Hi off topic from your post but I don’t know if you heard about the attacks on Israel today I told someone I know about the attacks against Israel today I don’t remember what they said but I don’t think they care about what is going on why?

    1. No. I have not heard any news on attacks on Israel. Liberal, watered down, main-line denominations. reform oriented types, don’t teach anything about Israel. They treat Israel with utter disdain, Therefor, there are many people, even in the church, that have no concern for Israel. Also, fake news hates Israel, so their reporting will match they sentiments.

      1. Check out this Bible Verse. ‘But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 1. To believe in any raptures, other than pre-trib, is also believe that little children will under go the judgments of God, and the oppression of the anti-christ. Eph 5:25, “husbands, love your wives.” The church is the bride of Christ. Eph 5:25, “husbands, love your wives.” Christ the the bridegroom of all bridegrooms, and the church is the bride of all brides. To believe that the church will go through any of the tribulation is to believe that Christ has a strange way of “loving His wife.” It is like a wife being beaten up on the way to the altar, by her groom, and when they arrive, He says, ” sorry honey,” “I just had to do that.” As born again believers in Christ, our spirits are as pure as the Spirit of Christ, God does not have a problem with those of us whom have been born again. We can not be made any more holy by undergoing the oppression of the anti-christ or the judgments of God. Daniel 9:20, and 24-27, identify Israel as being left behind to be drawn to Christ. Jer 30:7 uses the words, “Jacob’s trouble,” which is Israel’s trouble, to describe the tribulation. Israel is specifically identified as going through the tribulation. Nowhere is there mention made of the born again believers in Christ going through any part of the tribulation; there is no purpose for it.

      2. Yes I agree no baby or child will go through the Tribulation because Jesus loves children and He loves us too and we belong to Him so we cannot go through the Tribulation and it is for the Salvation of the Jewish Nation right? I mean at the Rapture any woman who is not saved and pregnant the baby and other believing family members will be Raptured and she left behind.

      3. Your supposition is correct. But, I will add to your thoughts, as they relate to little children. Each embryo contains within it a spirit, and a developing soul and body. It is because of a spirit being born again, which is to have a regenerated spirit, that anyone will be born again. Christ related the Kingdom to children when He said, “for such is the kingdom of Heaven.” Once we have been born again, we are innocent of all charges against us that will keep us out of the Kingdom (2 Cor 5:21). Embryos and unborn children are also in that class of being innocent. God’s Holy Spirit will cause these “innocents” to be born again, and will be caught up in the rapture, even though their mother may not have been born again. When Christ came upon the disciples, He did not put them in a “learning about Christ class;” He created a new, born again, Spirit within each of them (John 3:8).

      4. In Rev 19:7-8, the born again believers in Christ appear at the Marriage of the Lamb. It is only by the rapture that we are at the Marriage, after having gone to the bema judgment (2 Cor 5:10) for rewards. In Rev 19:11-16, we descend with Christ for the battle of Armageddon, which is a spiritual battle 19:15. In 20:6, we rule and reign with Christ for the 1000 year millennium, the Kingdom age. In 21:1-3, we enter the eternal state of new heaven, new earth, new Jerusalem. The church is never mentioned after Rev 3. Rev 4 shows the caught up church in Heaven. From that point, the church is no longer mentioned, until Rev 19:7-8, even then, the word “church” is not mentioned ever again, although it is clear that the caught up saints are present from 19:7 forward. The Old Test saints are caught up at the end of the tribulation (Dan 12:1-2) The tribulation saints are also caught up at the end of the trib (20:5). All three groups of believers end up in the eternal state.

      5. No. The key is to be born again. The 144,000 are busy presenting the gospel. It is not the presence of a mark that takes a person to the great white throne judgment (Rev 20:10-15), but the absence of the new birth, which puts the Spirit of Christ into every born again believer. It may be difficult to come to saving faith in Christ during the tribulation, but it still will happen.

      6. Would you agree that if someone says something about MacArthur or anyone else it should come from MacArthur’s own website or anybody else’s own website and not a site that slanders them.

      7. If someone believes that someone else has been in error, that error should first be brought to the attention of the person whom is thought to have spoken or written the error. It can be a teachable moment for whomever has committed the error. John MacArthur is not one who would purposely teach error. I have heard well-known pastors say things that are not of which I believe to be true. But, I will not try to harm their witness for an error that is not one that will prevent people from coming to saving faith in Christ.

      8. I just want to let you know there is a group called Philia Ministries they are Torah Observant Hebrew Roots and they want to put Christians back under the Law when we are not under the Law but Grace.

      9. The Torah is described in the books of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. No one can be Torah observant unless, or course, they practice animal sacrifices and stoning.

      10. I just checked Philia Ministries. One thing of concern is one of their videos that relate to women wearing head coverings. The ref is Jer 6: 16-19. It is important to know that Jeremiah’s prophecy was given to Jews, about Jewish things. We can learn from the writings of the Jewish prophets, but it is also important that we recognize that Christ fulfilled all of the requirements of the law. I write a lot about the Jewish prophets, and do so to show their fulfillment in Christ, and also to show how the Jews will have a special place of prominence in the Kingdom Age (millennium), which can only be achieved through saving faith in Christ.

      11. There are many Messianic ministries that have a good teaching of God’s Word. We really don’t have time to police the remaining ones that have an incorrect teaching of God’s Word. Keep up “your” good work.

      12. Yes I agree but we must be aware of those that teach error so we can warn others. Everything I do on here is all Him I don’t do it for myself but to proclaim the Name of Jesus and preach that Only by Him can people be saved and go to Heaven.
