Road To Tribulation 6 – The Trembling And Toppling Of Jordan

I. Introduction.

A. Opening Video. Middle East Showdown, Part 1. Bill Salus and Gary Stearman, June 19, 2014. Prophecy Depot Ministries, Bill Salus. Aired again on Jan 28, 2021. Gary Stearman welcomes Bill Salus to the Prophecy In The News Studio where Bill shares invaluable insights written in his book, Nuclear Showdown in Iran, The Ancient Prophecy of Elam. This book reveals the potential relevance of an ancient prophecy that may pertain to Iran’s nuclear program. Scores of Iranian Christians are anxiously awaiting a prophecy concerning their future that was written in Jeremiah 49:34-39 (600 B.C.).

B. The opening video of this article, as will as of future teaching videos, will relate to subjects that we have already studies, as well as those which are yet to be discussed. The dates that these videos were aired may be very recent, or may be of a number of years old. It is important to remember that God’s prophetic time clock is independent of the dates that such prophecies will be fulfilled, or studied.

C. In addition to national enemies of Israel, there are terrorist groups that we will find in the discussion of NOW prophecies. The PLO, Hamas, Fatah, Hezbollah, Al-Qaeda, ISIS, and others are groups that may be found in any of the scenarios that we will be discussing, as for providing support for the nations that will attack Israel. In the unfulfilled prophecies that we are studying, the nations of the prophecies, as well as any supporting terrorist groups, will be defeated by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

D. A devastating invasion and destruction of the land of the Ammonites was described in this prophecy that Jeremiah received from the Lord. The Ammonites were descendants of Lot’s younger daughter (Gen 19:38, 1898 B.C.). Its capital city, Rabbah, would “become a mound of ruins” (Jer 49:2, 600 B.C.). Like his prophecy concerning Moab, though the destruction was extensive, God promised to “restore the fortunes of the Ammonites” (Jer 49:6). 1

E. The Ammonites were located east of the Jordan River and north of Moab. Throughout the history of Judah and the Ammonites, they had been in conflict. 2. The Ammonites rejoiced over Jerusalem’s fall to Babylon in 586 B.C. 3

F. The Ammonites were frequent enemies, and poor allies to Israel. In the days of Moses and Joshua they hindered the Jewish people from entering Israel and supported Balak in his plan to curse them (Deu 23:4, 1451 B.C.), then during the reign of Jehoiakim they raided Judah (2 Kg 24:2, 600 B.C.). Later, they allied with Judah against Babylon during Judah’s final revolt, yet were a driving force for the assassination of Gedaliah for their own advantage (Jr 40:13-14, 588 B.C.). When Jewish people returned after their captivity, Ammonites hindered the rebuilding of Jerusalem (Neh 4:7, 445 B.C.). 4

G. The judgments against nations adjacent to Israel are set forth in various portions of the Old Testament, e.g., against Ammon (Jer 49:1-6, 600 B.C.). 5

H. Jordan is the present land where the Ammonites, Moabites, and Edomites resided. Click on the folowing link to see a map which shows the location of The Kingdoms of Ammon, Moab, and Edom ca. 830 BC.

I. NOW Prophecies deal with the most relative information for this present age. This is because they describe events that will likely find fulfillment during this generation’s existence. All unfilled biblical prophecy is important to understand, but of most value to any given group, past, present or future, is the information that was specifically provided through the ancient Hebrew prophecies for that generation’s benefit. The NOW Prophecies are the unfulfilled ancient biblical predictions that appear to be imminent, which means they could happen NOW. These foretellings have either minor or no remaining preconditions inhibiting them from happening. 5.1

II. Supporting Prophetic Scriptures.

A. Text.

1. Jeremiah 49:1-6 – New American Standard Bible – Prophecy against Ammon – 600 B.C.

1 Concerning the sons of Ammon. This is what the Lord says:
“Does Israel have no sons?
Or has he no heirs?
Why then has Malcam taken possession of Gad,
And his people settled in its cities?
2 Therefore behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord,
“When I will cause an alarm of war to be heard
Against Rabbah of the sons of Ammon;
And it will become a desolate heap,
And her towns will be set on fire.
Then Israel will take possession of his possessors,”
Says the Lord.
3 “Wail, Heshbon, for Ai has been destroyed!
Cry out, daughters of Rabbah,
Put on sackcloth and mourn,
And move about inside the walls;
For Malcam will go into exile
Together with his priests and his leaders.
4 How you boast about the valleys!
Your valley is flowing away,
You backsliding daughter
Who trusts in her treasures, saying,
‘Who can come against me?’
5 Behold, I am going to bring terror upon you,”
Declares the Lord God of armies,
“From all directions around you;
And you will be driven away one after another,
With no one to gather the fugitives together.
6 But afterward I will restore
The fortunes of the sons of Ammon,”
Declares the Lord.

B. Overview.

Another ancient Bible prophecy seems to be nearing its fulfillment. The subject nation of this vastly overlooked prediction is Jordan. Approximately 2600 years ago, the Hebrew prophet Jeremiah foretold of a tormenting fear that would someday debilitate this Arab state. The prophecy states that Jordan will tremble as troubling events encroach in on all sides of its borders. Jeremiah 49:5 predicts that terrorizing geo-political events surrounding Jordan will severely destabilize the nation. The terror that Jeremiah describes has never engulfed this territory; that is, until NOW! According to Jer 49:1-5 (600 B.C.), the instability that occurs within the country burgeons into an epic biblical war against Israel, which results in the: (1) trembling and topping of Jordan, (2) dispersion of Jordanians from Jordan, and (3) expansion of the Jewish state into Jordan. 6

C. ISIS Appeal Presents Jordan With New Test.

1. The Iraqi and Syrian partisans played a significant role in the expansion of ISIS into those countries. The ISIS supporters in Jordan, like their Iraqi and Syrian counterparts, embrace the same goal of an Islamic State in the Levant (ISIL), which is another acronym that ISIS goes by. The goal of ISIL is to establish their Sunni style of Islamic rule throughout the Levant first, and then extend it throughout the rest of the world. The concern is that its bid for more control of the Mideast, ISIL will lockstep with their Jordanian adherents to capture all or parts of Jordan. This approach has already proven to be successful in Iraq and Syria. Adding to Jordan’s internal affairs problems are the hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees that continue to flood into the country. Presently, there are over 600,000 refugees encamped in Jordan. Many of those exiles are prime candidates for ISIS recruitment. 7

2. The Levant (C.1. above) is a term that generally identifies the greater Middle East region, which includes Syria, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, the Gaza Strip, West Bank, and parts of the Sinai, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Coincidentally, all of these territories appear to be involved in the prophecy of Psalm 83. 8

a. Former U.S. President Obama stopped saying ISIS, and began saying ISIL. Consider the following news article. “Why Obama calls ISIS ‘ISIL.’ ” “Obama, alone among virtually all world leaders and most news media, consistently calls ISIS, the world’s worst terrorist scourge, by the name ISIL. The former stands for Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, while ISIL stands for The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. The Levant is a much larger area than merely Syria, including also Cyprus, parts of Turkey, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan and parts of Egypt.”

b. It is amazing how so many Israel opponents favor the term ISIL, over ISIS. Genesis 15:18-21 (1913 B.C.) identifies the land that God promised to Abraham and his descendants, the nation of Israel. The boundaries of the promised extend from the Nile River in Egypt, to the Euphrates River. 9. The Euphrates River extends northward, from the Persian Gulf, and passes through the nations of Kuwait, Iraq, and Syria, and ends in Turkey. The Euphrates River also passes through the ancient city of Babylon. To say that ISIS is now ISIL is to give that terrorist group inferred ownership of God’s promised land to Israel, which will be the land of the Kingdom Age when Christ returns to earth from Heaven at the end of the Tribulation and sets up His Earthly Kingdom. 10. Yes! Words take on significant undertones.

D. Jordan’s Trembling. Jeremiah 49:5 (600 B.C.) says that the Lord will “bring fear upon” Jordan from “all those who are around.” Presently, Jordan faces trouble on every front.

1. Jordan Trembles To The North and Northeast (ISIS). ISIS has its sights on Jordan, and is pressing in from the north and northeast from strongholds in Syria and Iraq. This is a problem because ISIS has sympathizers residing inside of Jordan, as well as in Iraq and Syria. 11

2. Jordan Trembles To the East (Iran). On the eastern front, Jordan is unnerved by Iran’s attempt to spread its dominance in its direction. Presently, Iranian troops are deployed into the embattled areas of Iraq and Syria. Moreover, Iran’s funding of terrorist groups like Hezbollah (to the north), Hamas (to the west), and the Houthis (to the south), further aggravates Jordan’s situation. Of equal, or greater, concern is Iran’s developing nuclear program of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs). These ICBMs carry weapons of mass destruction, could fly over Jordanian airspace enroute to Israel, or even landin Jordan itself. 12

3. Jordan Trembles To The West (Israel vs Hezbollah Conflict). Hezbollah’s growing presence to Jordan’s north in the Golan Heights intensifies the already existing tension between Israel and Syria. On Jordan’s western front, Israel is bracing for another possible war with Hezbollah, which could eventuate in over 1500 missiles being launched into Israel daily. 13

4. Jordan Trembles To The South (Terror in the Sinai). Terrorism in the Sinai to Jordan’s south complicates matters further because much needed natural gas resources from there are under constant threat. A Sinai based terror group (Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis), who has pledged allegiance to ISIS, has bombed gas pipelines into Jordan in the recent past. Terrorist groups like this, that align with ISIS, are another growing concern for Jordan. 14.

5. Jordan Trembles Internally (The Palestinians). There are an estimated 3.24 million Palestinians living in Jordan, nearly one-half of the country’s overall population, many of them which are discontent with the current Jordanian leadership. These Palestinians want a state of their own, or at least more civil liberties within Jordan. 15

E. Why Jordan and Why NOW? 16

1. Presuming that all of the above is that which drives the fear of what will be in Jeremiah’s ancient prediction, we must ask, “why Jordan,” and “why NOW?” After all, Jordan maintains a peace treaty with Israel, and is generally pro-western, and is regarded by many as being the most moderate Arab state in the Middle East.

2. Some Bible teachers believe that Jordan is a sincere and long lasting friend of Israel. It has also been said that Psalm 83 can’t be a future prophecy, because Jordan is in that Psalm as one of the Arab confederates, and that Jordan won’t betray Israel’s trust and join the other Psalm 83 countries in attacking Israel. However it is important to not overlook the following significant facts:

a. War prophecies concerning Jordan in Jer 49:1-6 (600 B.C.), Zeph 2:8-11 (630 B.C.), Ps 83, Ezek 25:14 (590 B.C.), Isa 11:14 (713 B.C.), and elsewhere, remain unfulfilled.

b. The wars involving Jordan against Israel in 1948, 1967 and 1973, which did not fulfill all of the prophecies above, demonstrated a clear pattern of Jordan’s hatred toward Israel in modernity.

c. Jordan refuses to acknowledge Israel’s right to exist as the Jewish state.

d. Jordan threatened to revoke its 1994 peace agreement with Israel in October of 2014, because Israel threatened Jordan’s control over the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

e. Jordan temporarily withdrew its Ambassador to Israel in November 2014, also over the Temple Mount matter.

f. About one-half of Jordan’s population are Palestinians who are predominantly hostile toward Israel.

3. The answers to “why Jordan and why Now” are found in the unfulfilled prophecies of Jeremiah, Zephaniah, Ezekiel and Isaiah, and the others listed in “a.” above. The following prophecies predict that Jordan will be toppled.

a. Jeremiah 49:1-2 (600 B.C.), Zephaniah 2:8-9 (630 B.C.), and Amos 1:13 (787 B.C.) point out that Jordan is guilty of enlarging its borders at Israel’s expense. Jordan is located within the borders of the “Promised Land.”

b. Some of the most scathing prophecies in store for Jordan’s future deals with the ancient territory of Edom, which is modern day Southern Jordan. According to Amos 1:11, Ezek 25:12 (590 B.C.), Ezek 35:5 (587 B.C.), and elsewhere, Edom has hated Israel with a vengeance. The Bible describes it as a perpetual hatred, which means that it stems from long ago and still exists today. This perpetual enmity against the Jews is represented in the Palestinians, who have Edomite descendants within their ethnicity.

III. Conclusion.

A. Text. Jeremiah 49:6 (600 B.C.). But afterward I will restore the fortunes of the sons of Ammon,” declares the Lord.

B. Comment. Jordan’s immediate future looks bleak. According to Jeremiah 49:1-5(600 B.C.), they will tremble, and then they will be toppled. However, Jeremiah 49:6 has some good news for the Jordanians. This verse foretells that sometime after Jordan gets toppled, some of the Jordanian exiles will acknowledge that Yahweh is God, and that Christ is their Savior..

IV. Israel In The News.

The Israeli military carried out airstrikes in the Gaza Strip in the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday morning (5th) after terrorists based in the coastal enclave fired three rockets at southern Israel.

V. God And Israel – Genesis 12:2-3 – 2123 B.C.

And I will make you into a great nation,
And I will bless you,
And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing;
And I will bless those who bless you,
And the one who curses you I will curse.
And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.

VI. Sources Of Information. I will put this statement of sources of information on each of my future articles.

A. Footnotes. The following sources of information provide great teaching ideas; I encourage everyone to purchase these materials. Of the footnoted sources, I have been blessed by Bill Salus and his search for prophetic information. I have seen Bill in many interviews where he is questioned, about “end times and last days subjects,” by authors, pastors and theologians, whom are well known for their expertise in such areas of God’s Word. I have been greatly blessed by Bill’s research that has brought about his teaching on the “NOW, NEXT, LAST and FINAL” Prophecies. Through “You Tube” videos I have watched, hours upon hours, of Bill Salus being interviewed, and have found his knowledge of God’s Word to be very “credible.”

B. Everyone reads something that someone else has written. Therefore, it is important to choose authors whom have proven to be knowledgeable of the things that they have written, and also have a high degree of acceptance from their peers. In addition to the sources of information that are footnoted in the above paragraph, there are many other theologians with whom I greatly respect, and whose works I use for reference in the articles that I write. A list of such theologians, along with their credentials, can be found on this website’s Page of my sources of information. On that page you can also find linked information that tells of ministry works of many of those trusted theologians.

The Church is the Church, and Israel is Israel. The Church did not replace Israel, and is not spiritual Israel. In the New Testament, “church” and “Israel” are mentioned as being separate entities. In the New Testament “church” is mentioned 112 times; Israel is mentioned 79 times; both are mentioned as being separate entities The Kingdom “has not yet come,” and will not come until the Jewish bloodline of Israel accepts God’s chosen king (Deuteronomy 17:15), which will take place at the end of the Tribulation when the nation of Israel faces decimation and calls on Messiah, Christ, in faith, to save them (Zechariah 12:10). Individual salvation is of the Jews (John 4:22), and comes through Christ (John 14:6). Things are discussed in this website that relate to God’s creation, from “eternity to eternity,” and all that is addressed within those parameters. Consider Isaiah 43:13, “Even from eternity I am He, And there is no one who can rescue from My hand; I act, and who can reverse it?” The Moody Study Bible adds a comment: “God is the ruler of all, and there is nothing that can stand against Him. His will is irresistible. The Bible Knowledge Commentary adds this thought: “No one can reverse what God puts into action or thwart His plans.” The articles that are found in this site may relate to anything that is found in the Bible, from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation22.21, as well as anything else that may relate to the Bible.
