As I prepare this post, it is about 30 minutes until the onset of the Sabbath (Sunset On Friday) in many parts of the world where internet friends of mine have their places of residence. I wish everyone, “Shabbat Shalom.”

The time is quickly approaching the onset of the Lord’s Sabbath, or should I say that the Lord’s Sabbath is quickly approaching all of the creation of God, Elohim. In my part of the world, which is Friday afternoon, the Lord’s Sabbath will arrive in about two hours, at sundown, and will last until Saturday afternoon at sundown. Consider Genesis 1:1. In order for me to show that there is no attack on the King James Bible, I have included seven other respected translations. If anyone can see such an attack, please share those details with me. You will also see the Hebrew Word for God being Elohim, with it being identified by Strong’s reference number 430. You will also see that God, Elohim, is shown in plural form. Such applications of plurality (not more than one God, but a triune God, with three separate personalities in one) are shown in Genesis 1:2 and Genesis 1:26. The end result is God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, from whom our world was created.

Notice there was not interruption in the creation of any day to the next day.
Now, let’s lead into the “Seventh Day,” which is called “the seventh day,” and not the Sabbath (at this time in creation). The date that is provided by the Scofield Study Bible is 4004 B.C.

1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
Notice in verse 3, the word “seventh.” Notice the Hebrew form of “seventh.”

Let’s go to Exodus 16 and consider the first Sabbath. Its date is 1491 B.C., or about 2513 years after the first mention of the seventh day. It was at this time that God told Moses to tell the Israelites to observe the Sabbath (vs 23). It was the time that God gave the Sabbath to the Jews to keep (vs 28-29). It was at this time that the Jews rested on the seventh day (vs 30).
The Sabbath Observed
22 Now on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one. When all the leaders of the congregation came and told Moses, 23 then he said to them, “This is what the LORD meant: Tomorrow is a sabbath observance, a holy sabbath to the LORD. Bake what you will bake and boil what you will boil, and all that is left over put aside to be kept until morning.” 24 So they put it aside until morning, as Moses had ordered, and it did not become foul nor was there any worm in it. 25 Moses said, “Eat it today, for today is a sabbath to the LORD; today you will not find it in the field. 26“Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the sabbath, there will be none.”
27 It came about on the seventh day that some of the people went out to gather, but they found none. 28 Then the LORD said to Moses, “How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My instructions? 29“See, the LORD has given you the sabbath; therefore He gives you bread for two days on the sixth day. Remain every man in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.” 30So the people rested on the seventh day.
Let’s go to Exodus 31 for signs of the Sabbath. God tells the Israelites that the Sabbath is a sign between Him and the Israelites (vs 13); the Sabbath is to be observed by the Jews, because it is holy to them (vs 14); that God created the world in six days (vs 17); that the sabbath is a perpetual covenant between God and Israel (vs 18). It is important to know that the Sabbath is special to the Jews, and was given by God to the Jews to keep. It is also important to remember that because God created the Sabbath, and that He made it Holy, it is also Holy to all of His creation.
The Sign of the Sabbath
12 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 13“But as for you, speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘You shall surely observe My sabbaths; for this is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the LORD who sanctifies you. 14‘Therefore you are to observe the sabbath, for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people. 15‘For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a sabbath of complete rest, holy to the LORD; whoever does any work on the sabbath day shall surely be put to death. 16‘So the sons of Israel shall observe the sabbath, to celebrate the sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant.’ 17“It is a sign between Me and the sons of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, but on the seventh day He ceased from labor, and was refreshed.”
Let’s go to Exodus 19 and consider God preparing to give the Law to the Israelites. The subjects of this passage is God, Moses, Aaron, the Israelites…..and…..nobody else.
The LORD Visits Sinai
18 Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked violently. 19 When the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and God answered him with thunder. 20 The LORD came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain; and the LORD called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up. 21 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, “Go down, warn the people, so that they do not break through to the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish. 22“Also let the priests who come near to the LORD consecrate themselves, or else the LORD will break out against them.” 23 Moses said to the LORD, “The people cannot come up to Mount Sinai, for You warned us, saying, ‘Set bounds about the mountain and consecrate it.’” 24 Then the LORD said to him, “Go down and come up again, you and Aaron with you; but do not let the priests and the people break through to come up to the LORD, or He will break forth upon them.” 25 So Moses went down to the people and told them.
Let’s go to Exodus 20 and consider God giving the Law to the Israelites. Notice that the only ones who were present were God, Moses, Aaron, and the Israelites. In verse 22 God reminds the Israelites that He spoke to them from Heaven. The total law is 613 commands, which is known as the 613 Torah Laws. They were designed to teach (Torah means teaching) the Jews how to be civil toward each other, and to prepare a holy people to bring a holy Messiah into the world (Deu 7:6, John 4:22). There are also laws of conscience that were present in the minds of people ever since the creation. Murder, Cain and Able (Gen 4:8-15); sexual immorality, Sodom and Gomorrah (Sodom=sodomy), (Gen 19:1-29). The Law was given to the Jews; no one else was around! The world had been widely populated by this time. Consider that conscience is a gift to everyone (even unsaved people know that it is wrong to take the life of some other person).

2“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
3“You shall have no other gods before Me.
4“You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. 5“You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing loving kindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
7“You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.
8“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9“Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. 11“For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.
12“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the LORD your God gives you.
13“You shall not murder.
14“You shall not commit adultery.
15“You shall not steal.
16“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
17“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
18 All the people perceived the thunder and the lightning flashes and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood at a distance. 19 Then they said to Moses, “Speak to us yourself and we will listen; but let not God speak to us, or we will die.” 20 Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid; for God has come in order to test you, and in order that the fear of Him may remain with you, so that you may not sin.” 21 So the people stood at a distance, while Moses approached the thick cloud where God was.
22 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘You yourselves have seen that I have spoken to you from heaven. 23‘You shall not make other gods besides Me; gods of silver or gods of gold, you shall not make for yourselves. 24‘You shall make an altar of earth for Me, and you shall sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your oxen; in every place where I cause My name to be remembered, I will come to you and bless you. 25‘If you make an altar of stone for Me, you shall not build it of cut stones, for if you wield your tool on it, you will profane it. 26‘And you shall not go up by steps to My altar, so that your nakedness will not be exposed on it.’
In summary:
The seventh day is “only” the seventh day. The Sabbath Day is “only” the Sabbath Day that occurs “only” on the seventh day. No other day of the week can be made into the Sabbath. The descendants of Israel were the only people who were present when God gave the Sabbath Day to the Jews for keeping (Exodus 31:16; Exodus 1:1-11 and 19:1 through Exodus 20:8). The subject of Exodus is the deliverance of Israel by God from a tyrannical Egyptian leader. Of the descendants of Shem through Abraham, only the descendants of Jacob, the Israelites, were present in the book of Exodus. None of the descendants of Ham or Japheth were present in the book of Exodus. (Noah was the father of Shem, Ham and Japheth…Genesis 9:18; 10:1). Remember that the army of Egypt was chasing the Israelites; no other groups of people were mentioned as joining the fleeing Jews to also be chased by the murderous Egyptians (who would soon became fish food in the Red Sea!).
May it be said again. The Sabbath is special to God, and to the Jews. It is also special to every other group of people because,”God made it special; He made it holy.” Consider how we can keep the Sabbath Holy.
“Shabbat Shalom”
‘Shabbat’ means ‘sabbath’ – so, the seventh day of the week when the Torah instructs the Jewish people to do no work on that day, but rather rest.
‘Shalom’ means ‘peace’ – in the sense of ‘the peace of God’, or something to that effect. By itself, it is a common greeting in Hebrew.
So, saying ‘Shabbat Shalom’ to someone is an expression of your wish for them to enjoy and experience that peace on Shabbat.
