Honoring The Sabbath – Which Day Should We Meet For Worship?

In the opening video, Joshua Aaron has a very vivid way of describing how Jews celebrate and honor the Sabbath. The video shows smiling faces coming from happy people. Joshua is a Jew whom has accepted Yeshua as Christ. May your Shabbat be one of due honor of the seventh day, which God has sanctified. From sunset on each Friday, until sunset on each following Saturday, is a time for us to draw close to God. We don’t have to “do anything” to honor the Sabbath. The intimacy that is described in John 17:3, “of knowing God,” is key. God loves us; we love God. We show such a love of God by being intimate with Him. “Try it; you’ll like it!”

Question: “What was the Old Covenant?”
https://www.gotquestions.org/old-covenant.html

Answer: The Old Covenant was a conditional or bilateral agreement that God made with the Israelites. The Old Covenant was in effect during the dispensation of the Law. It is “old” in comparison to the New Covenant, promised by Jeremiah the prophet (Jeremiah 31:31, 33) and made effective by the death of the Lord Jesus (Luke 22:20). In the Old Covenant, the Israelites were required to obey God and keep the Law, and in return He protected and blessed them (Deuteronomy 30:15–18; 1 Samuel 12:14–15). In the New Covenant, things change and God becomes the proactive and unconditional source of salvation and blessing. In the New Covenant, “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

The Old Covenant consists of much more than the Ten Commandments, of which the Sabbath is key.

Exodus 20:8 “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.

The following is a brief listing of the 613 commandments (mitzvot), as recorded and classified by Maimonides in the 12th century. This listing is taken from his classic compendium of Jewish law, the “Mishneh Torah,” which contains 14 primary “books” or sections.
https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/the-613-mitzvot-commandments

What is the New Covenant?
https://www.gotquestions.org/new-covenant.html

Answer: The New Covenant (or New Testament) is the promise that God makes with humanity that He will forgive sin and restore fellowship with those whose hearts are turned toward Him. Jesus Christ is the mediator of the New Covenant, and His death on the cross is the basis of the promise (Luke 22:20). The New Covenant was predicted while the Old Covenant was still in effect—the prophets Moses, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel all allude to the New Covenant.

The New Covenant is “a Better Covenant.”
https://www.gotquestions.org/old-covenant.html

In the Old Covenant, God also established that the way to atone for sin is through the shedding of blood (Hebrews 9:22). That is why during the Last Supper on the night of His arrest, Jesus passed the cup to the disciples and told them, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you” (Luke 22:20). When Jesus was crucified, His blood provided for the forgiveness of the sins of the whole world—the basis of the New Covenant. “By calling this covenant ‘new,’ he has made the first one obsolete” (Hebrews 8:13). Salvation is now a free gift for any who will believe in Christ and trust that His blood takes away their guilt before God (John 3:16–17).

Consider the New Covenant.

Jeremiah 31:31-34 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

31 “Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, 32 not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord. 33 “But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the Lord, “I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the Lord, “for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”

As was mentioned in the discussion of the Old Covenant, Sabbath keeping was a key part of the Old Covenant. So, let’s consider the role of, or absence from, the Sabbath during the time of the New Covenant.

Let’s consider the Sabbath of the Old Covenant.

The Sabbath was a gift from God to the Jews, and only to the Jews. The Sabbath was not given to any other group of people in the world. Exodus 16:29 “See, the Lord has given you the sabbath;”

The Sabbath is a sign between God and the Jews. Exodus 31:13 “But as for you, speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘You shall surely observe My sabbaths; for this is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you.”

Let’s consider Christ fulfilling the Sabbath, as well as every other requirement of the Law.

Matthew 5:17-18 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
17 “Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

Believers in Christ are not required to worship on the Sabbath, but there should be an honor and appreciation for the Sabbath. God made the Sabbath; He made the Sabbath Holy. No one can move the Sabbath to any other day of the week to meet their own desires. The Sabbath will always begin on Friday at sunset, and will always last until the following Saturday at sunset. Nothing will ever change that Godly ordained time of each week from being the seventh day of the week.

Consider the memo from Back To The Bible.

As we have seen, the Sabbath in God’s plan concerns only Israel. Note these truths: (1) the Sabbath law was given in Exodus 16, 2500 years after creation; (2) it was given as a sign to Israel (Ex. 31:12-1); (3) since Israel is scattered, the Sabbath is not now observed; the Law was finished, according to Galatians 3:19, in Christ; (4) when the Jews are reestablished as God’s earthly nation, the Sabbath will again be observed. https://www.backtothebible.org/post/what-does-god-s-word-say-about-the-christian-keeping-the-sabbath

The Apostle Paul discussed Sabbath keeping with the the church at Colossae.

Colossians 2:16-17 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
16 Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day— 17 things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ. (Ryrie Study Bible: The command to observe the Sabbath is the only one of the Ten Commandments not repeated after Pentecost).

The Apostle Paul discussed the first day of the week as the day that the church met for worship at Corinth.

1 Corinthians 16:1-2 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
1 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I directed the churches of Galatia, so do you also. 2 On the first day of every week each one of you is to put aside and save, as he may prosper, so that no collections be made when I come.

Let’s consider the discussion that Christ had with the woman at the well.

John 4:20-24 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
20 Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.” 21 Jesus *said to her, “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

The message of Christ to the woman is that neither “place, nor time,” is that which God expects from His people. God demands worship to be “in spirit and truth.”

Let’s come to a conclusion of this discussion on worship. If your church meets at sunset on Friday, that’s wonderful. If you church meets at 10 AM on Saturday, that’s wonderful, too. If your church meets at 8 PM on Saturday, “go for it!” If you church meets for worship on Sunday at 11 AM, no one can speak critically about meeting at that time, or at any other time, as long as you are meeting for worship, “in spirit and truth.”

But….. I must throw this passage into the discussion.

Acts 2:46 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
46 Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart,

The early Jews that accepted Yeshua as Christ, continued sabbath worship as well as meeting together in their homes as believers in Christ.

As for this Sabbath/Shabbat, I will say to you, “Shabbat Shalom.”
“Shabbat shalom” is a Hebrew greeting for the Jewish Sabbath. Its literal meaning is “Sabbath of Peace.” https://coffeeshoprabbi.com/2017/08/12/what-does-shabbat-shalom-mean/

I will also add the following verse of scripture, and close with a song of worship.

Psalm 122:6 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you.

John 2:1-12 Good News Translation (GNT)

The Wedding in Cana

1 Two days later there was a wedding in the town of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine had given out, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They are out of wine.”

4 “You must not tell me what to do,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.”

5 Jesus’ mother then told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

6 The Jews have rules about ritual washing, and for this purpose six stone water jars were there, each one large enough to hold between twenty and thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill these jars with water.” They filled them to the brim, 8 and then he told them, “Now draw some water out and take it to the man in charge of the feast.” They took him the water, 9 which now had turned into wine, and he tasted it. He did not know where this wine had come from (but, of course, the servants who had drawn out the water knew); so he called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Everyone else serves the best wine first, and after the guests have drunk a lot, he serves the ordinary wine. But you have kept the best wine until now!”

11 Jesus performed this first miracle in Cana in Galilee; there he revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.

12 After this, Jesus and his mother, brothers, and disciples went to Capernaum and stayed there a few days.

John 2:1-12 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Miracle at Cana

1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; 2 and both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus *said to Him, “They have no wine.” 4 And Jesus *said to her, “Woman, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother *said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” 6 Now there were six stone waterpots set there for the Jewish custom of purification, containing twenty or thirty gallons each. 7 Jesus *said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” So they filled them up to the brim. 8 And He *said to them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.” So they took it to him. 9 When the headwaiter tasted the water which had become wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter *called the bridegroom, 10 and *said to him, “Every man serves the good wine first, and when the people have drunk freely, then he serves the poorer wine; but you have kept the good wine until now.” 11 This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him.

12 After this He went down to Capernaum, He and His mother and His brothers and His disciples; and they stayed there a few days.

The Life Of Christ – John 1:35-51

Jesus Gathers Disciples | English | The Life of Jesus | 3 of 49

Translation In Video

John 1:35-51 Good News Translation (GNT)

The First Disciples of Jesus

35 The next day John was standing there again with two of his disciples, 36 when he saw Jesus walking by. “There is the Lamb of God!” he said.

37 The two disciples heard him say this and went with Jesus. 38 Jesus turned, saw them following him, and asked, “What are you looking for?”

They answered, “Where do you live, Rabbi?” (This word means “Teacher.”)

39 “Come and see,” he answered. (It was then about four o’clock in the afternoon.) So they went with him and saw where he lived, and spent the rest of that day with him.

40 One of them was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 At once he found his brother Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah.” (This word means “Christ.”) 42 Then he took Simon to Jesus.

Jesus looked at him and said, “Your name is Simon son of John, but you will be called Cephas.” (This is the same as Peter and means “a rock.”)

Jesus Calls Philip and Nathanael

43 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Come with me!” (44 Philip was from Bethsaida, the town where Andrew and Peter lived.) 45 Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one whom Moses wrote about in the book of the Law and whom the prophets also wrote about. He is Jesus son of Joseph, from Nazareth.”

46 “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” Nathanael asked.

“Come and see,” answered Philip.

47 When Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, he said about him, “Here is a real Israelite; there is nothing false in him!”

48 Nathanael asked him, “How do you know me?”

Jesus answered, “I saw you when you were under the fig tree before Philip called you.”

49 “Teacher,” answered Nathanael, “you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”

50 Jesus said, “Do you believe just because I told you I saw you when you were under the fig tree? You will see much greater things than this!” 51 And he said to them, “I am telling you the truth: you will see heaven open and God’s angels going up and coming down on the Son of Man.”

John 1:35-51 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Jesus’ Public Ministry, First Converts

35 Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples, 36 and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and *said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” 37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. 38 And Jesus turned and saw them following, and *said to them, “What do you seek?” They said to Him, “Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?” 39 He *said to them, “Come, and you will see.” So they came and saw where He was staying; and they stayed with Him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. 40 One of the two who heard John speak and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He *found first his own brother Simon and *said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which translated means Christ). 42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas” (which is translated Peter).

43 The next day He purposed to go into Galilee, and He *found Philip. And Jesus *said to him, “Follow Me.” 44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip *found Nathanael and *said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” 46 Nathanael said to him, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Philip *said to him, “Come and see.” 47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and *said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!” 48 Nathanael *said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” 49 Nathanael answered Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel.” 50 Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” 51 And He *said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”

Ascension – Sabbath – Shavuot – Pentecost – June 7-10, 2019

Day of Pentecost HD Gise Ríos Published on Sep 27, 2015 From The Bible Series

I. Introduction. The focus of this article is on the Holy times that are shown in the subject line of this article. They all relate to the plan that God has placed before his chosen people, the Jews, as well as the born again believers in Christ, the Church. Unless otherwise noted, scriptures in this article are taken from the New American Standard Bible (NASB) 1995 edition.

A. The following text book definitions tell of four special times of Christians and Jews. Consider the following timeline of events, as they relate to the days of May 30 through June 10 of this year (2019). The day of the ascension of Christ occurred ten days prior to the Day of Pentecost, and was observed on Ascension Sunday (June 2), which takes place seven days prior to the Day of Pentecost. Sabbath begins on each Friday at sunset, and continues until the following Saturday at sunset. Shavuot begins on this Saturday (June 8) at sunset, and extends through Monday (June 10) at sunset. The Day of Pentecost is observed on Pentecost Sunday, which will take place on this Sunday (June 9).

1. Ascension May 30, 2019 (Midnight To Midnight)
Ascension for the year 2019 is celebrated/ observed on Thursday, May 30. Ascension Day each year is held on a Thursday 39 days after Easter Sunday. This day commemorates Jesus Christs ascension into heaven. More information on Ascension. (Dates, Customs and History for Ascension).
https://www.calendardate.com/ascension_day_2019.htm (The Day of the Ascension of Christ was ten days before the Day of Pentecost. Some churches honor the ascension, “Ascension Sunday,” seven days prior to Pentecost Sunday (The Day Of Pentecost).

2. Sabbath June 7-8, 2019 (Sunset to sunset)
Sabbath is a day set aside for rest and worship. According to the Book of Exodus the Sabbath is a day of rest on the seventh day, commanded by God to be kept as a holy day of rest, as God rested from creation. It is observed differently among the Abrahamic religions and informs a similar occasion in several other practices.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabbath

3. Shavuot June 8–10, 2019 (Sunset to sunset)
The word Shavuot (or Shavuos) means “weeks.” It celebrates the completion of the seven-week Omer counting period between Passover and Shavuot. The Torah was given by G‑d to the Jewish people on Mount Sinai on Shavuot more than 3,300 years ago. Every year on the holiday of Shavuot we renew our acceptance of G‑d’s gift, and G‑d “re-gives” the Torah.
https://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/609663/jewish/What-Is-Shavuot-Shavuos.htm

4. Pentecost June 9, 2019 (Midnight to midnight)
The Christian holy day of Pentecost, which is celebrated on the seventh Sunday after Easter, commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ while they were in Jerusalem celebrating the Feast of Weeks, as described in the Acts of the Apostles. In Christian tradition, this event represents the birth of the early Church.
https://www.bing.com/search?q=the+day+of+pentecost+explained&FORM=QSRE1
https://www.gotquestions.org/day-Pentecost.html(The Day of Pentecost is also known as Pentecost Sunday).

B. Discussion. In order for us to properly understand these four special days of God, we will have to go back many years in history, and many books of biblical teaching.

1. Sabbath. Consider the Holy relationship that exists between God and the Jews. Consider the Holiness of the sabbath, that exists between God and the Jews. As far as the Sabbath relationship, for Christians and God, it is a spiritual observance: “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it Holy. Christians should consider how they can “keep the Sabbath Holy,” in their lives. Consider the Holiness that is foumd in each of the following verses.

a. Exodus 16:23 the sabbath observance, a holy sabbath to the Lord.
b. Exodus 16:25 the sabbath is a sabbath to the Lord;
c. Exodus 16:29 the Lord has given you the sabbath; (a gift from God to the Jews).
d. Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. (a commandment to the Jews).
e. Exodus 20:10 the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God.
f. Exodus 20:11 the Lord blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.
g. Exodus 31:13 But as for you, speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘You shall surely observe My sabbaths; for this is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you.” (God’s Word to Moses, to be spoken to the Jews).
9. Exodus 31:14 Therefore you are to observe the sabbath, for it is holy to you (Words to Jews).
10. Exodus 31:15 For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a sabbath of complete rest, holy to the Lord.
11. Exodus 31:16 So the sons of Israel shall observe the sabbath, to celebrate the sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant (spoken to Jews).
12. Exodus 35:2 “For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day you shall have a holy day, a sabbath of complete rest to the Lord (spoken to Jews).
13. Leviticus 16:31 It is to be a sabbath of solemn rest for you, that you may humble your souls; it is a permanent statute (spoken to Jews). (I like “that you may humble your souls.”)
14. Leviticus 23:3 ‘For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a sabbath of complete rest, a holy convocation. You shall not do any work; it is a sabbath to the Lord in all your dwellings (spoken to Jews). (I like Holy convocation; the GNT says “gather for worship,” instead of “holy convocation.”)
15. Leviticus 23:32 It is to be a sabbath of complete rest to you, and you shall humble your souls; on the ninth of the month at evening, from evening until evening you shall keep your sabbath.” (spoken to Jews). (notice that each day begins in the evening and ends on the following evening).

2. Pentecost. Shavuot. Harvest. Feast of Weeks.

a. Exodus 23:14–19 All male Jews were required to travel to the temple in Jerusalem for the Feasts of Unleavened Bread, Pentecost, and Tabernacles. (MacArthur Study notes).

b. Leviticus 23:15-17 15 ‘You shall also count for yourselves from the day after the sabbath, from the day when you brought in the sheaf of the wave offering; there shall be seven complete sabbaths. 16 You shall count fifty days to the day after the seventh sabbath; then you shall present a new grain offering to the Lord. 17 You shall bring in from your dwelling places two loaves of bread for a wave offering, made of two-tenths of an ephah; they shall be of a fine flour, baked with leaven as first fruits to the Lord. 21 On this same day you shall make a proclamation as well; you are to have a holy convocation. You shall do no laborious work. It is to be a perpetual statute in all your dwelling places throughout your generations.

c. Acts 2:1. When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.5 Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven.

d. Acts 1:5; 2:4. The Feast of Pentecost was fulfilled in Christ.

e. 2 Kings 17:1-6. In 722 B.C. the ten northern tribes of Israel were taken captive by the Assyrians and displaced from their land. This dispersal sent those ten tribes into far lands.

f. 2 Kings 24:17-21. In 597-586 B.C. the two southern tribes of Israel were taken captive by the Babylonians and displaced from their land. This dispersal sent those two tribes into far lands.

g. Acts 2:1-5. In 30 A.D. (all dates Ryrie Study Bible)
The Day of Pentecost. Because of Ex 14-19, dispersed Jews went to Jerusalem for the feast of Pentecost. At that time, God chose to pour out His Holy Spirit on those Jews, per the following verses. In this context, “tongues” refers to languages. From the time of the dispersal in 722 B.C., those Jews learned and spoke the languages of the lands where they had been dispersed. So, in Acts, not all Jews in Jerusalem spoke the same language; many had forgotten how to speak Hebrew; verses 4-5 address that reality. It is amazing that the dispersed Jews had the discipline to obey the Mosaic Law to go to Jerusalem for the three required feasts. The miracle of Pentecost was that the Jews in the upper room spoke the individual languages of all of the congregated Jews, from all of the dispersed lands (vs 5), so that they could hear the gospel of “Christ and Him crucified” (Acts 2:36).

h. Leviticus 23:15-22, Deuteronomy 16:9-12, and Acts 2:1 discuss Pentecost. Other verses discuss this Holy event, as follows, and : https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/topics/Feast-Of-Weeks

3. Acts 1:1-11. 30. A.D. The ascension of Christ.

a. After His resurrection, Christ appeared to people 40 days, and preached the gospel (good news) of “the kingdom of heaven” (THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN). Christ told the disciples (men and women) to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit to fall on them, and empower them. The disciples still wanted to know if the Kingdom of God was going to be restored at this time (no mention of heaven). Christ then gave them their orders, per the great commission of Acts 1:8, to carry His message to the world. Then, Christ ascended upward to heaven into a cloud, and was seen no more. Angels told the disciples that Christ would return to earth in the same manner that He left.

b. The disciples went to an upper room in Jerusalem, where they waited, and prayed for ten days. This particular upper room may have been the same place where Christ observed His last Passover with the disciples. Women accompanied Christ and His disciples as they traveled (Luke 8:1-3), as He preached about THE KINGDOM OF GOD. I can not believe that Christ would have “shut the door” on the women, and prevented them from taking part in the last Passover observance. Women were waiting in the upper room for the Holy Spirit to fall on Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 1:14). The group of 120 followers of Christ stayed in Jerusalem for 10 days, praying; then the Holy Spirit fell (Acts 2:1-6) (50 days after the resurrection of Christ; Ryrie Study Bible note).

c. The result of the Day of Pentecost miracle was that 3,000 Jews came to saving faith in Christ on that same day (Acts 2:41).

II. Conclusion. All of the events of this article have a key sharing ingredient, with that factor being the law. The Sabbath and Shavuot were key elements of the Law. The Day of Pentecost, drew Jews from many lands to Jerusalem, due to the Law. The Day of Christ’s Ascension occurred so that the Holy Spirit could fall on Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost. I can safely say that, as a result of the law, all born again believers in Christ have come to saving faith in Christ; this was due to the discipline that the Jews, from Moses to Christ, showed toward the Law.

III. Reverence – Holiness. At the time of this writing, the earth is rotating on its axis at a speed of 1,000 miles per hour. Some people who read my articles are living where it is darkness, and others are living where it is daylight. Some are awaking from darkness, and seeing the early dawning hours. Some people are enjoying a noon time meal. Others are looking forward to having their evening meal, at about the time that sunset develops, and the Sabbath of Friday afternoon appears. The Sabbath should be “remembered, and kept holy,” for 24 hours until sunset on Saturday evening. Please let me encourage all who read my blog to “Remember the Sabbath, to keep it holy.” The Sabbath, the seventh day of the week, is important, is Holy, and should not be dismissed from the “area of importance” of our mind.

Sabbath Worship, as well as all of the other requirements of the Law, was fulfilled by Christ (Matthew 5:17-18). Believers in Christ are not required to worship on the Sabbath, but there should be an honor and appreciation for the Sabbath. God made the Sabbath; He made the Sabbath Holy. No one can move the Sabbath to another day of the week to meet their desires.

My wish for those whom will be reading this article will be to:

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy” (Exodus 20:8).

John 1:19-34 Good News Translation (GNT)

John the Baptist’s Message

19 The Jewish authorities in Jerusalem sent some priests and Levites to John to ask him, “Who are you?”

20 John did not refuse to answer, but spoke out openly and clearly, saying: “I am not the Messiah.”

21 “Who are you, then?” they asked. “Are you Elijah?”

“No, I am not,” John answered.

“Are you the Prophet?” they asked.

“No,” he replied.

22 “Then tell us who you are,” they said. “We have to take an answer back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”

23 John answered by quoting the prophet Isaiah:

“I am ‘the voice of someone shouting in the desert:
Make a straight path for the Lord to travel!’”

24 The messengers, who had been sent by the Pharisees, 25 then asked John, “If you are not the Messiah nor Elijah nor the Prophet, why do you baptize?”

26 John answered, “I baptize with water, but among you stands the one you do not know. 27 He is coming after me, but I am not good enough even to untie his sandals.”

28 All this happened in Bethany on the east side of the Jordan River, where John was baptizing.

The Lamb of God

29 The next day John saw Jesus coming to him, and said, “There is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘A man is coming after me, but he is greater than I am, because he existed before I was born.’ 31 I did not know who he would be, but I came baptizing with water in order to make him known to the people of Israel.”

32 And John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from heaven and stay on him. 33 I still did not know that he was the one, but God, who sent me to baptize with water, had said to me, ‘You will see the Spirit come down and stay on a man; he is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 I have seen it,” said John, “and I tell you that he is the Son of God.”

My Daily Reading Translation

John 1:19-34 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The Testimony of John

19 This is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent to him priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” 20 And he confessed and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.” 21 They asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” And he *said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.” 22 Then they said to him, “Who are you, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?” 23 He said, “I am a voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”

24 Now they had been sent from the Pharisees. 25 They asked him, and said to him, “Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” 26 John answered them saying, “I baptize in water, but among you stands One whom you do not know. 27 It is He who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.” 28 These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

29 The next day he *saw Jesus coming to him and *said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is He on behalf of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’ 31 I did not recognize Him, but so that He might be manifested to Israel, I came baptizing in water.” 32 John testified saying, “I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him. 33 I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, ‘He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’ 34 I myself have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God.”

The life of Jesus Published on Mar 12, 2017
————————————————-
The Gospel of John was written two generations after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
It is set in a time when the Roman Empire controlled Jerusalem.
Although crucifixion was the preferred Roman method of punishment, it was not one sanctioned by Jewish law.
Jesus and all his early followers were Jewish.
The Gospel reflects a period of unprecedented polemic and antagonism between the emerging church and the religious establishment of the Jewish people.
