LET US REFLECT AND REPENT

A Press Release from the Office of Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

” . . . if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

LET US REFLECT AND REPENT

6/29/16

Congressman Doug Lamborn has introduced a resolution (H. Res. 790), expressing support for the designation of July 2, 2016 as the “National Day of Personal Reflection and Repentance.”

“While there will be no solemn assemblies or public gatherings, this is a call for all of us to personally reflect before our God, to repent for our national and our personal sins, and to ask God to forgive us and to heal our land. There is substantial historical precedent for national repentance and seeking God’s forgiveness and favor.

Presidents John Adams, James Madison, and Abraham Lincoln all declared days of repentance during their presidencies. As it is written in Chronicles 7:14, ‘if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.'”
– Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

TEXT OF RESOLUTION

Expressing support for designation of July 2, 2016 as the “National Day of Personal Reflection and Repentance.”
Whereas we hold and celebrate July 4th as our day of Independence, the actual vote to dissolve all ties with Great Britain was on July 2, 1776;

Whereas upon approving of the Declaration of Independence, John Adams believed the Second of July ought to be commemorated as a day of deliverance by solemn act of devotion to God Almighty;

Whereas President John Adams, declared that May 9th, 1798 as a day of national humiliation, fasting, and prayer;
Whereas in 1812, President James Madison declared August 20th, 1812 as a day, to be observed by the people of the United States as a day of public humiliation, and prayer;

Whereas in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War called for a day of humility, fasting, and prayer, and for other purposes;
Whereas, it is the duty of nations, as well as of men to owe their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon, and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations are blessed whose God is Lord;
Whereas, we know that we have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth and power as no other nation has ever grown; but we have forgotten God;

Whereas, we have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our heart, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own;

Whereas intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us;
Whereas, we have failed to respond, personally and collectively, with sacrifice and uncompromised commitment to the unmet needs of our fellow man, both at home and abroad; as a people, we have become so absorbed with the selfish pursuits of pleasure and profit that we have blinded ourselves to God’s standard of justice and righteousness for this society;

Whereas, it therefore behooves us to humble ourselves before Almighty God, to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness: Now, therefore be it Resolved, That the House of Representatives
1) Supports the designation of a “National Day of Personal Reflection and Repentance.”

2) Calls upon the people of the nation to humble ourselves as we see fit, before our Creator to acknowledge our final dependence upon Him and to repent of our national sins.

Author: Eternity

The Church is the Church, and Israel is Israel. The Church did not replace Israel, and is not spiritual Israel. In the New Testament, “church” and “Israel” are mentioned as being separate entities. In the New Testament “church” is mentioned 112 times; Israel is mentioned 79 times; both are mentioned as being separate entities The Kingdom “has not yet come,” and will not come until the Jewish bloodline of Israel accepts God’s chosen king (Deuteronomy 17:15), which will take place at the end of the Tribulation when the nation of Israel faces decimation and calls on Messiah, Christ, in faith, to save them (Zechariah 12:10). Individual salvation is of the Jews (John 4:22), and comes through Christ (John 14:6). Things are discussed in this website that relate to God’s creation, from “eternity to eternity,” and all that is addressed within those parameters. Consider Isaiah 43:13, “Even from eternity I am He, And there is no one who can rescue from My hand; I act, and who can reverse it?” The Moody Study Bible adds a comment: “God is the ruler of all, and there is nothing that can stand against Him. His will is irresistible. The Bible Knowledge Commentary adds this thought: “No one can reverse what God puts into action or thwart His plans.” The articles that are found in this site may relate to anything that is found in the Bible, from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21. Therefore, I will not provide my name, place of residence, or anything else that could lead a person to know anything about me. I recommend that all writers adopt the same method of personal security.
